Utpana Ekadashi Vrat Katha

Yudhishthira said, "Oh God! You did not even mention thousands of yajna and lakha gaudan as equivalent to Ekadashi fast. So, tell me how this date was better than all the dates. God said - O Yudhishthira! In the Satyuga a monster named Mur was born. He was very strong and horrible. That fierce monster defeated all of the gods like Indra, Aditya, Vasu, Vayu, Agni and many others. and drove them away.

Then all of the gods together with Indra have been frightened and informed all of the accounts to Lord Shiva and stated, O Kailashpati! Fearing the evil monster, all of the gods are residing on this planet of death. Then Lord Shiva said- O gods! Go to the shelter of Lord Vishnu, the lord of the three worlds, and destroy the sorrows of the devotees.

He alone can overcome your sorrows. Listening to such words of Shiva, all of the gods reached Kshirsagar. Seeing the Lord sleeping there, folded his hands, and started praising them, O Gods worthy of praise! Thank you again and again, Madhusudan, who protects the gods! Greetings to you. You protect us Fearful of the demons, now we have all come to your shelter.

You're the doers, mother and father, origin and nurturers and destroyers of this world. Giving peace to everybody. You might be also the sky and hell. All people's grandfather is Brahma, Surya, Chandra, Agni, materials, house, ahuti, mantra, tantra, chanting, yajaman, yagna, karma, karta, bhakta. You might be ubiquitous. Except you, there may be nothing variable and constant in the three worlds.

On listening to such phrases of God, Indra said- Lord! In ancient times, there was a demon named Nadijangha and his great-grandson and a son named people well-known Mur. He has a city named Chandravati. He has taken all of the gods out of heaven and gathered his authority there. He has taken the place of Indra, Agni, Varuna, Yama, Vayu, Ish, Moon, Nairut, and many others.

Sun makes itself light. The cloud itself is sitting and is the most invincible. Hey Asur Nikandan! Make the gods invincible by killing that evil one. Listening to this, God stated - O Gods, I'll kill him soon. You go to the city of Chandravati. In this way, all of the gods together with God went towards the city of Chandravati. At the moment the monster was thundering in the battlefield along with the Mur army. Hearing his terrible roar, all of the gods fled in all 4 directions in fear. When the Lord himself came to the battlefield, the demons also ran with weapons.

God tied him with his arrows like a snake. Many monsters have been killed. The one thing left was me. He continued to battle with God without any feeling. The Lord would prove to be a flower for whoever used sharp arrows. His body disintegrated but he continued to battle.

Their war continued for 10 thousand years however didn't die. Tired, Lord went to Badrikashram. There was a beautiful cave known as Hemavati, God entered into it to relaxation in it. This cave was 12 plan long and had just one gate. Lord Vishnu slept there in the lap of Yoga Nidra. Mur also came backward and upon seeing God slept, was decided to kill him, when the goddess with bright, radiant form appeared from the body of God. The goddess challenged the demon Mur, made war, and killed her instantly.

When Shri Hari got up from the lap of Yoganidra, realizing all of the issues, he told the Goddess that you were born on Ekadashi, so you will be worshiped under the name of Utpana Ekadashi. Your devotees will be those who are my devotees.
